Course Overview
A comprehensive course on integrated energy system modeling and optimization for coupled natural gas and electricity grids. The course teaches how to model an energy system that consists of a natural gas grid and an electricity transmission grid. We will model the operation of these two grids. We will develop an optimization model that minimizes the cost of operating the two grids. Specifically, the natural gas grid ships natural gas from the natural gas supply points to the natural gas demand centers, which are natural gas consumers such as natural gas power stations (which burn natural gas to produce electricity). The electricity transmission system consists of thermal power stations (including natural gas stations that burn natural gas and produce electricity) and wind farms, as well as electricity consumers. We will model the operation of the two grids in Python and GAMS, including the flow of natural gas as well as the flow of electricity.
