About

Prerequisites: None Duration: * Description: You will develop an Optimisation Model from scratch, in Python. The course is designed for beginners with basic knowledge of Python. You will learn how Object Oriented Programming is applied in practice and fully develop a large-scale real-world optimisation model.  The model you will develop is a deterministic mixed-integer linear optimisation problem on electricity transmission system expansion planning.  You will find how an electricity network planner determines how to optimally reinforce the national electricity transmission system (here, the application is for Great Britain) as a response to the allocation of electrolysers nationally. That is, the electrolyser placement across the country (here, Great Britain) is an input parameter, while the optimal location and amount of network reinforcement (i.e. which lines/boundaries to upgrade) are decision variables. Notice that the network planner decides only on conventional reinforcement for transmission systems and neither on smart technologies (e.g. the location and amount of storage is an input parameter) nor on electricity generation. We examine different allocations of electrolysers across the electricity transmission system and observe each time how the optimal solution (network reinforcement) changes.
