About

Most participants watch the videos at 1.5x speed. Prerequisites: None Duration: 2 hours, 30 minutes Course Description: This is an advanced research course specifically for PhD candidates or researchers (PhD).  The course teaches how to use stochastic optimisation to determine the optimal electricity grid reinforcement strategy, including upgrading power lines and deploying smart Electric Vehicle charging stations. We focus on electricity distribution grids. We also consider the presence of uncertainty, where there is uncertain growth of the EV charging peak load. You will explore concepts like option value of smart charging and build-time. You will also conduct sensitivity analyses: a) what the effect of social cost is on the amount of network reinforcement (line upgrades) and option value of smart EV chargers, b) how the option value of smart chargers changes as a function of the flexibility of smart charging and the investment cost of smart charging, c) how the network reinforcement amount changes as a function of the flexibility of smart charging and the investment cost of smart charging.
